A transfer switch acts as a safety device that allows you to connect your MCIS electrical circuits to a generator during a power outage, while also preventing the generator from sending power back into the utility grid, ensuring safe operation during power outages. These switches can be manual (requiring you to physically switch the power source) or automatic (automatically switching to the generator when utility power fails). The main function of a transfer switch is to isolate the utility grid from the generator, preventing the generator from back-feeding power into the grid, which is a serious safety hazard for utility workers. When utility power is available, the transfer switch connects your system to the grid. When the grid fails, the transfer switch connects your system to the generator. You can choose which circuits to power from the generator, allowing for to prioritisation of essential circuits and devices.

Highly reliable power redundancy for mission critical IT equipment
The Rack-Mount Static Transfer Switch (rSTS) safeguards the uninterrupted operation of mission critical IT equipment. Powered by two independent power sources, the rSTS rapidly switches from one source to the other automatically when the power supply used to power its connected load fails. For data centre applications the rSTS allows power drop risk to be shared or distributed to each rack to prevent power loss for the whole system. The rSTS offers an efficient and reliable switch that supports the high redundancy requirements of mission critical power systems.

Rack-Mount Automatic Transfer Switch
Most data centres provide power source redundancy in order to ensure critical devices have no power related downtime. Many rackmount IT devices, however, are not designed to take advantage of power redundancy. For single-corded devices, ATS is a perfect fit to provide power failover. Intelligent ATS ( iATS ) also allows user to switch power input over IP, and provides real time power monitoring and helps users with power capacity planning.

Intelligent Hybrid Rack Transfer Switch
Raritan’s hybrid rack transfer switches use electromechanical relays and siliconcontrolled rectifiers (SCRs) to transfer a load between two sources. The result is performance and reliability that exceeds that of standard automatic transfer switches (ATS) and at a lower cost than static transfer switches (STS).
